CREST Wins Swim Ontario's Small Team Award at 2017 Summer Provincials
We are excited to share the news that Crest took home Swim Ontario’s Small Team Award at the 2017 Summer Long Course Provincial Championship last weekend (June 29-July 2) at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre! The win comes just one week after earning the Small Team Award at Summer Festivals held June 24-26 in Markham. This is the fourth time in a row Crest has won the Swim Ontario Small Team Award in 2017. Crest also won the award in February 2017 at the Swim Ontario Winter Festivals and then again in March at the 2017 Spring Long Course (LC) Provincials.
The Provincial Championships attracted 145 teams from across Ontario and is one of the most competitive meets held each year. Representing Crest at the Provincial Championships were Benjamin Loewen (13), James McCole (17), Kevin Park (14), Lucas Park (12), Jake Prokosch (13), Alexander Schwab (15) and Mady Shivgulam (18). The Summer LC Provincial Championships caps off one of the most successful years in the club’s 36-year history, which will also see Crest swimmers qualify for the Canadian Junior Championships being held July 26-31, 2017, at the Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough, Ontario.
“Crest is a small team by design which reflects our personalized approach to the training and development of our swimmers,” said Wilfred Arzaga, Head Coach. “This approach has achieved outstanding results over the years, including our very successful 1996-98 seasons, and it has really paid off in the 2016/17 season with our swimmers winning numerous medals and earning Crest the Small Team Award for the last four Swim Ontario meets. I am incredibly proud of our team and the commitment and dedication that our swimmers demonstrated throughout the past year. This is a small team that punches above its weight because we have a community that supports us and swimmers who have talent, heart and outstanding team spirit.”
